NZMCA Involvement
Formed in 1956, the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association Inc. (NZMCA) is a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation representing the interests of some 120,000 New Zealanders who enjoy camping throughout the country in their certified self-contained motorhomes and caravans.
NZMCA members receive a range of financial and social benefits, including exclusive access to over 60 private motorhome parks nationwide.
In 2022, the NZMCA adopted an ambitious ‘Places to Stay Strategy’ to support its growing membership with a view to expanding its exclusive parks network and, amongst other things, work with industry operators, government agencies, councils and their communities to protect some of our iconic kiwi campsites. As part of this 10-year strategy, we are taking on public campgrounds to help ensure NZMCA members and kiwi families can continue to afford to go camping in desirable locations.
In 2023, the NZMCA purchased the Moeraki Boulders Holiday Park @Hampden Beach business and long-term lease, and in 2024 the Association took another significant step in expanding its public campground network by securing long-term lease agreements with the Kaipara District Council to manage the Glinks Gully & Kellys Bay Reserve campgrounds on Northland's Pouto Peninsula.
Glinks Gully & Kellys Bay will have volunteer campsite hosts over the extended summer period, with public bookings available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors must book and pay for access via the Inugo App, prior to arrival.
The reliance on a remote booking system is important as we need to keep operating costs down to provide affordable camping opportunities for all kiwi families, and share the net profits with the Kellys Bay Improvement Society – aligning with the NZMCA’s mission to support host communities.
